A Hero for Freedom
Nelson Mandela was born on July 18, 1918, in South Africa. At that time, black people in South
Africa were treated unfairly. Mandela wanted to change this and make his country a
place for everyone.
He studied hard and became a lawyer. He joined a group that believed all people should be treated
equally. In 1962, he was arrested and sent to prison for 27 years. Even in prison, he made people keep their hope alive.
In 1990, Mandela was finally set free. Mandela believed in peace, forgiveness, and justice. People saw him as a symbol of peace and freedom. He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993.
In 1994, he became South Africa’s first black president. After one term, he stepped down and continued to help others around the world.
Nelson Mandela died in 2013, but he is still remembered as a hero who made the world a better place.
