Trust String
Andy’s StoryI’m blind. I walk with a stick. One day, my homeroom teacher said, “There will be a school event, Friendship Marathon. In this event, two people run as a team.” Everyone talked about it. I also got interested. “But can I run?” I was not sure. So I talked about it with my best friend, Junha. He said, “Don’t worry! I’ll run with you.”
On the day of the marathon, we tied a string around our fingers to feel each other’s movement. I listened to him very carefully and ran with him. The wind was blowing through me and it felt great! At the finish line, everyone cheered for us. I was proud of myself.
Before the marathon, I thought that I couldn’t do it. But now, I want to try other things. I think that I can try a bike ride next time!
Junha’s StoryAndy and I signed up for Friendship Marathon. I was his guide runner. We ran together every day with a string. I told him, “Andy, a bike is coming. So let’s move to the right.” As a team, we practiced hard to win the marathon.
During the marathon, I ran with Andy and guided him at the same time. It was hard, but we didn’t stop running. At last, we made it to the finish line! We didn’t win the race. But I knew that we did our best.
Finishing something was not easy for me. But this time I did it! I was very happy. Andy looked happy, too.
