The Spread of English across the Globe
The spread of English around the globe began from the 17th-century onwards.
It is first due to the colonization of North America and later due to the expansion of the British Empire in the 18th century.
The Pilgrims first arrived in 1620 at Plymouth, and a large number of British people moved to North America for religious, economic, and political reasons.
They established 13 colonies, which became the 13 original states after the Declaration of Independence in 1776.
