“A man was sent to jail for having a
python skin belt in Zimbabwe. His
name is Enock Muzamba and he is
now serving a nine-year jail term for
violating wildlife protection laws. He
claimed that he only skinned the
python that was already dead on the
road, possibly because it was crushed
by a car. His claim did not diminish his
crime because under the country’s severe wildlife laws, killing or having
an endangered wild animal or their body parts leads to the same nine-
year jail term. His fate would have been the same, even if the animal were
not a python.”
