Kipchoge’s Growth Diary
I want to be a famous marathon runner.
Today, I am going to write down what
can help me achieve my dream.

can help me achieve my dream.
I know that if I never stop trying, I will
succeed. Every step will lead me to
something big. One day, I will run a
marathon in less than 2 hours.

The environment
My physical characteristics
My daily routine
I was born and raised in a high-altitude
region in Kenya, where the air is thin, and
the hills are steep. This environment has
helped me train my lungs to be stronger
and more efficient in using oxygen. Every
day, I run on these hills, which builds my
endurance and strength. This unique
environment gives me an edge over
other runners who train at lower
altitudes.

I have a slim and light body that is
well-suited for long-distance running.
My legs, with thin ankles and calves,
allow me to move quickly and
efficiently, conserving energy for the
long race ahead. Despite my slender
build, my body is strong and capable
of handling intense physical exertion. I
believe that my physical traits,
combined with my dedication, will help
me achieve my dream of becoming a
world-class marathoner.

My day begins before sunrise. I wake up
early to run long distances, pushing
myself further each day. After my
morning run, I spend the rest of my day
doing manual work on the farm—
whether it’s tending to livestock,
collecting water, or helping with crops.
These tasks keep me physically active
and build strength. I also make sure
to have a healthy diet, focusing on local
foods like vegetables, rice, and beans to
fuel my training.
