In high school, everyone told me how talented
an artist I was, so I dreamed of becoming an illustrator.

In university,
though, everyone seemed much more talented than me, and they all
worked so hard that I felt small in comparison.

I thought about giving
up my dream of becoming an artist.

Then one day, I happened to see
a drawing I had won an award for from middle school on the kitchen
wall.

I was embarrassed because it wasn’t very good.

<tell＋간접 목적어＋직접 목적어>의 형태로 me는 간접 목적어 역할을 하며, how talented an artist I was는 명사절로 직접 목적어의 역할을 한다.

much는 비교급 more talented를 강조하는 표현으로, 비교급을 강조하는 부사로는 even, still, far, a lot 등이 있다.

of는 동격의 of로 앞의 명사구 my dream과 becoming an artist가 동격임을 나타낸다.

Then one day, I happened to see a drawing I had won an award for from middle school on the kitchen wall.

<happen to + V>는 ‘우연히 ~하다’라는 뜻이다.

had won은 과거완료시제로 사용되어 그림을 우연히 본 것 보다 먼저 일어난 사건임을 나타낸다.
