Information Report About the McGurk Effect
What is it?

The McGurk effect is a phenomenon where the auditory perception of a
spoken syllable is altered by the visual presentation of a conflicting mouth
movement.

How does it work?

In experiments illustrating the phenomenon, participants hear the sound
“ba” while watching a video of a person saying “ga.”
In doing so, most
people perceive “da,” which combines both the sound and sight cues.
This
occurs even when participants are aware that they are different.

Why is it important?

What the McGurk effect shows is that our brains can mix up sight and
sound cues.
It shows that our senses work together.
We can use this
knowledge to help people with speech problems.
An information report is usually written to provide objective information on certain phenomena or effects. It typically begins with a brief explanation of what the effect is, followed by a detailed description of how it works, and ends with why it is important. All the information provided in the report should be accurate and reliable.
