What’s your area of expertise?
I work on large wood sculptures.
My inspiration comes from the material I pick up from the dump.
Each piece of wood has different colors and patterns, so every part is different in my sculptures.
For example, I might use a board from an abandoned bench for one leg and a piece of wood from a faded window frame for the other leg, which makes an excellent mix and match.
What are the challenges and rewards of upcycled art?
The biggest challenge is coming up with new and original ideas.
With the abundance of upcycled art available, it can be difficult to stand out.
However, it’s a terrific way to foster public awareness about the gravity of recycling and waste reduction.
That’s the aspect of my vocation that I find most rewarding.
Q
Do you know any other forms of upcycled art?
Sample Yes. I have seen art in the shapes of frogs and rabbits made from recycled spoons and forks.
